We operate the national skills program I Love Water Polo at Artillery Park Pool in conjunction with the City of Kingston. This is not a Hydra program and is administered by the city, we lead it technically and work around it with club practice routines. The coaches and equipment are all from Hydra.
Our programs are closely tied to the Varsity teams at Queen’s University. We share the same Head Coach, Dave Hill, and our other club coaches are Varsity athletes. The varsity programs allow us access to the ARC Pool as community users.
We also have a major event hosted at Queen’s University every year that club volunteers help with. This is the “official training” side of the sport for Hydra as parents and older athletes can learn about minor official duties and game formalities.
In the past few years we have struggled to field full teams in each gender and age i.e. 12U Boys, 12U Boys, 14U Girls, 14U Boys, 16U boys, 16U Girls. A couple of our players have played with a local Ottawa club to give them more competitive games at 14U. That will be expanded this season and more House League players will have the opportunity to regularly play with these age group teams. That will be explained to families at a parent meeting in the fall as the whole club will be involved in this development.
